charminar was built in the year 1591 by SUltan Mohammed
Quli Qutb Shah. The monument was constructed in honour of the
wife of Sultan Bhagmati. This was in the early days when the capital was
shifted to Hyderabad. The city of Hyderabad at that point of time was known by
the name of Golconda. The meaning of Charminar is 4 pillars. The design at
that point of time was inspired from the Shia Tazia. The 4 corners of the
Hyderabad Charminar are of at least 20 m in length. The monument at that point
of time was created in order to keep a watch in all directions of the capital.
The base of the monument was created in such a way that it represents a lotus
leaf.

floor of Hyderabad Charminar.
